Responsibility of the Visual Communicator

Designers have the role of forming language at a visual level and so a social responsibility for that content. This responsibility is compounded by the free access to media enables by everyone. The example given by the group was that we all have access to ‘Meine Kampf’. The question was should we have access to it and if so does it assume, should it assume that we are responsible in our consumption of it?

Design Discourse

As part of the design discourse element of the LLC P/T MA a discussion group has been formed consisting of:

Ben Dunning (me)
Emily Fox
Kemal Gezer
Rebecca Lee
Tom Longmate
Eleanor Maclure

Our first meeting took place on 10/03/10 in the LCC library. An interesting debate quickly developed. Our initial plan is to each re-read the design discourse briefs key articles and then post on this blog a brief outline of a position or idea that has been inspired by these texts or came out of our initial talk

Circle, SQUARE, Triangle

Intersected squares made out of coloured paper — getting ahead of myself

We received the initial feedback today on our tentative forays into the first brief: Design Literacy. Although I didn’t volunteer to talk about my work during the seminar and was not called upon to talk about it either (could be both a good and bad thing) all the issues I have been experiencing where discussed in depth through others work.
