I’m not sure how I came across it in the course of looking for information on Design Discourse topics but I found this article on GIll Sans. I recall having declared my love for this typeface quite loudly in the pub after our visit to decode at the V&A. High on swiftly drunk alcohol and nervous sitting next to Paul McNeil, I feel I was maybe a little too free with my praise of this typeface and the forcefulness with which I expressed it. Reading this very interesting article was a little sobering (no pun intended) and I suddenly feel the urge to track down some different typefaces…

I too stumbled upon that article a few months back and it kind of burst my Gill Sans bubble. I also love this typeface, my graphics teacher at school introduced me too it, doing GCSE D&T, it was the first typeface I was properly familiar with and I have had a soft spot for it ever since. Although I have to admit it does go a bit crazy in extra bold. However you can’t really argue with a lot of what is said in the article but I do feel that although Johnson Sans maybe a superior typeface you can’t really use it without work looking like it’s for London Underground.
